My Weekly Summer Skincare Routine

My Weekly Summer Skincare Routine -- The Life She Wanders

Skincare has become such an important factor of my daily life that I look back to even just a few years ago and don’t know how I went without washing my face or caring what products I was putting on it [GASP!]. I’ve done lots of research and tested different brands and products to really, truly find what works best for me and my skin. Our skin is all so unique so finding what works for YOU is key.

Clean skincare is also extremely important to me. I switched to using only Drunk Elephant products nearly a year and a half ago and it was the best decision I’ve made. I get 99% of their products from Sephora [gotta get those Beauty Insider points! I’m currently at VIB and very close to Rouge status] but will occasional order directly from the Drunk Elephant site. Their products have done absolute wonders for my skin, to the point where I now feel comfortable out in public without makeup on.

I admire the thought and science that goes into each of the products. Their packaging is also so eye catching and unique! Another thing I love about Drunk Elephant is that the products can be mixed together into a “Drunk Elephant smoothie/cocktail” and applied, there’s no specific step 1, step 2, step 3, step 92834972384. Now, there are products that shouldn’t be mixed or used daily but you can find that info all on their site.

I have a pretty solid weekly skincare routine down pat now that leaves my skin fresh, clean and glowing. I have a general AM routine, PM routine and a few AM additions throughout the week. Keep scrolling to check out my current weekly skincare routine!

MORNING ROUTINE

Since I start my morning’s off with some sort of sweat session, I always wash my face afterwards. I use the Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser and it truly gets all of the sweat, grime and grossness off of my face without drying it out. This cleanser also lasts SUCH a long time! I got mine at Christmas and it just ran out last week. Not only is it an amazing product that lasts a long time, it’s an incredible deal at only $32! Now if I don’t get a sweat session in in the morning, I skip this step and will typically just splash my face with cool/cold water.

Next, I apply the C-Tango Multivitamin Eye Cream under my eyes and on my lids. It’s extremely moisturizing and has almost a cooling effect when you apply it. This eye cream helps to improve brightness, fine lines & wrinkles, and firmness/elasticity.

Up next, it’s time to make my morning skincare Drunk Elephant smoothie. For the summer I combine: 1 pump of Protini Polypeptide Moisturizer, 1 pump of C-Firma Vitamin C Day Serum, and 2-3 drops of Virgin Marula Antioxidant Face Oil. I mix them together in my hand and apply all over my face, avoiding my eyes and eye area.

The Protini Moisturizer is a lightweight, creamy texture and adds a shot of protein to boost and replenish your skin. The Vitamin C serum is the best Vitamin C I have ever tried! It doesn’t burn or tingle the skin, and I don’t find it has any weird smell like many others do. It’s great for improving the firmness and brightness of the skin. The Virgin Marula Oil is one of Drunk Elephant’s holy grail items. It does not leave my skin feeling greasy or sticky like I found many other face oils to do. It helps to deeply moisturize the skin and acts as the carrier to bring other products it is mixed with deep into the skin for optimal performance.

I typically let all of that soak into my skin which doesn’t take much time at all and I finish it off with sunscreen. I love Drunk Elephant’s Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen. It’s SPF 30 and has 20% zinc oxide. I love the tint in the sunscreen because it acts as a great base for my makeup…and it’s perfect for those “no makeup makeup” days.

NIGHTTIME ROUTINE

My nighttime routine starts off very similar to my morning routine. I always use the Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser to get all of my makeup off and any of that gross summer humidity. I said it before but this cleanser is an amazing deal at just $32 and it lasts for an incredibly long time [mine lasted 7+ months].

Next, it’s time to make my nighttime skincare Drunk Elephant cocktail. For the summer I combine: 1 pump of Protini Polypeptide Moisturizer, 1 pump of T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Resurfacing Night Serum, and 2-4 drops of Virgin Marula Antioxidant Face Oil depending on how my skin feels. I mix them together in my hands and apply to my face, again avoiding my eyes and eye area.

I talked about Protini and Virgin Marula oil above so I’ll spare you from reading it again. The TLC Framboos is a 12% AHA/BHA night serum that resurfaces and refines the skin for a smoother looking complexion. Think of it as mini nightly facials!

WEEKLY ADD-INS

I do have a few add-ins throughout the week, both morning and nighttime that I don’t use every single day. Two times a week in the morning [typically Tuesdays and Thursdays], I incorporate their A-Passioni Retinol Cream and B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum into my morning skincare routine smoothie. I just use about a pea size amount of the retinol cream and 1 pump of B-Hydra. I’ve used retinol in the past a few years ago so my skin didn’t have any adverse reactions to incorporating A-Passioni since it can be strong for some. Adding the B-Hydra in gives my skin extra hydration to balance out the retinol.

On Sundays, I use their holy grail of products…T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial. Y’all, this stuff is GOLD!! I use 3-4 pumps, apply to my face avoiding my eyes and let it sit for no more than 20 minutes. Rinse it off and your skin will be feeling as smooth as a baby’s bottom! It is a 25% AHA and 2% BHA blend that gently but effectively resurfaces the skin by removing dead skin cells and exfoliating pores. It dramatically smooths the texture of your skin, minimizes the appearances of fine lines, wrinkles and pores, and boosts the overall radiant glow of your skin. This truly is the best skincare product!

Lastly, I do a lip mask typically 3 times a week at night and is the only non Drunk Elephant skincare product I use. It’s the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in vanilla and it is like a facial for your lips, they are so smooth afterwards! You just apply it at night with the applicator that comes in the box, leave it on while you sleep and then wipe it off in the morning for silky smooth lips. A little goes a long way so this is a great value at only $30!
